Kalpani is a PhD student in Economics at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, where she currently works as a teaching assistant. Her doctoral research focuses on "Understanding Income Inequality: The Role of Demographic Factors in New Zealand." She holds a BA specialized in Economics from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Her research interests encompass Development and Labour Economics. Previously, Kalpani served as an assistant lecturer at both the Department of Economics, University of Colombo, and the National Institute of Co-operative Development in Sri Lanka. She also collaborated with the Centre for Migration Research and Development (CMRD) as a Quantitative Analyst in the Protracted Displacement Economies project, conducted in partnership with the University of Sussex, UK.
